LG Google Nexus 4 E960  Take Apart Guide:

  • For starters, make sure the device is completely powered off. Then you will remove the Sim Card using a Sim Card  removal tool or a paperclip (figure 1.1).
  • Next you will unscrew two (2) T5 screws (highlighted in red in figure 1.2) located at the bottom of the device.
  • Now using a safe open pry tool, begin removing the back housing from the rest of the device. Start at the bottom and work your way around the sides and edges releasing the clips with the pry tool (figure 1.3). Once the clips have been released the back housing can be removed (figure 1.4).

  • Using a blow dryer (on medium) or a heat gun  (on low), begin heating the back cover (figure 2.1). Warm the part for about 50 - 60 seconds, keeping about an inch between the cover and dryer. Be sure not to overheat, as this can cause damage and possibly distort the cover.
  • After the cover has been heated, use your pry tool and wedge between the glass back cover and the plastic housing (figure 2.2). The glass is adhered very firmly to the housing, and this step will take some extra aggressiveness to complete. You will most likely need to remove the glass in pieces, being careful not to cut yourself, as well as use caution not to damage the antenna or flex cable found directly beneath the glass (figure 2.3). Be aware at this point in the repair the volume button may fall out of the housing, simply place it to the side for later. If removing the glass becomes very difficult you may want to apply more heat to loosen the adhesive.
  • Once the glass has been removed, use a Q-Tip and alcohol or adhesive solvent to clean up the mess the adhesive has left behind (figure 2.4). Also, use your pry tool to scrape everything clean, making sure to pick out any remaining glass shards.

  • Our next step will be to apply adhesive strips along the back housing unit (figure 3.1). Then peel away the back paper revealing the sticky part of the strips.
  • Now you are ready to install the new glass back cover (figure 3.2).
  • Next place the speaker mesh in it's appropriate place (highlighted in green in figure 3.3). You can use the same speaker mesh that was attached to the old back cover.
  • Lastly, return the volume button to it's spot in the housing (highlighted in purple in figure 3.4).

  • The device is now ready to be reassembled. Secure the back housing to the front housing (should click right in place). Then finally replace the Sim Card and the two (2) T5 Torx screws at the bottom of the device.
